Privacy Policy

The Short Version
We collect only what we need to run this site. We never sell your data. We never share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We built this site to help homeowners, not to monetize their personal information.
Who We Are
Home Learning Curve is an independent community website run by Mark Myers, a homeowner who got tired of learning things the hard way. This is not a corporation. There are no investors. The goal is simply to build a useful resource for people like us.
What We Collect
If you create an account, we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- A hashed (encrypted) password — we never store your password in plain text
- The tips and content you choose to submit
If you browse without an account, we collect nothing beyond what any standard web server logs automatically — your IP address and the pages you visit. We use this only to keep the server running properly.
What We Do With It
Your information is used for one purpose: running this site. Specifically:
- Your email is used to manage your account and communicate with you about it
- Your name appears on tips you submit, so others know who shared the advice
- We do not send marketing emails
- We do not build profiles on you
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information — ever
Advertising
Home Learning Curve is free to use and we intend to keep it that way. To cover the costs of running the site — hosting, domain, maintenance — we plan to display advertisements in the future, likely through Google AdSense.
We want to be upfront about what that means: Google AdSense uses cookies to show relevant ads based on your browsing activity. This is Google's technology, not ours, and their data practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
We have no interest in building an ad-heavy site that gets in the way of the content. When ads are introduced, they will be unobtrusive. The goal is to keep the lights on, not to profit from your attention.
Cookies
We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. That's it. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party cookies at this time. When Google AdSense is introduced in the future, we will update this policy and add appropriate cookie consent notice.
Your Content
Tips and advice you submit remain yours. By submitting content you give us permission to display it on the site. We will never sell your content or use it for purposes other than running this community resource. If you'd like your account or submitted content removed, contact us and we'll take care of it.
Data Security
The site runs over HTTPS — all data between your browser and our server is encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard methods and are never stored in plain text. We take reasonable precautions to protect your data, though no system is completely immune to risk.
Children
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it.

This policy is written in plain English on purpose. If something is unclear, ask. We'd rather explain it than hide behind legal language.
